2012 Safe Schools Conference

The 2012 Annual Safe Schools Conference will be held at the Hilton Harrisburg on May 8-9, 2012.

This professional development opportunity will focus on creating a positive school culture that supports academic success and provides a safe teaching and learning environment.  The event will feature state and national experts presenting the latest research in school safety and youth violence prevention, effective program models, promising practices, networking opportunities and more during institutes, plenary sessions and workshops.   

School administrators, student support personnel, teachers, school nurses, Student Assistance Program team members, school resource officers, local law enforcement and other community partners are encouraged to attend.

This event is presented by the Center for Safe Schools in partnership with Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Mid-Atlantic Equity Assistance Center.

The 2011 Pennsylvania Conference on Juvenile Justice

The 2011 Pennsylvania Conference on Juvenile Justice was held at the Harrisburg Hilton & Towers, Harrisburg, PA on November 2-4, 2011. 

The theme of this year's conference was Pennsylvania's Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Strategy:  Achieving our Mission through Evidence-based Policy and Practices, which reflects our next steps towards achieving Balanced and Restorative Justice.  The conference specifically focused on the appropriate and effective use of research, evidence-based practices, and continuous quality improvement at each stage along the juvenile justice continuum.

This year's training workshops highlighted practices, programs and initiatives that exemplify best-practices amongst the various components of Pennsylvania's Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Strategy (JJSES). Each of the workshops offered emphasized the use of related research, evidence-based programs and continuous quality improvement as it relates to the successful implementation of specific programs and, more broadly, each decision-making point along the juvenile  justice continuum.

The Conference concluded with Resource Day.  Over 1,000 conference participants had an opportunity to learn about new, innovative, and creative approaches to working with juveniles and their families.  Individuals were invited representing public and private programs, technological products, and other relevant services available to the juvenile courts in Pennsylvania to meet with the conference participants during this informal session that concludes the conference.
